If you’re in the market for a new electric whip to take on coastal adventures and haven’t already considered Fatboy Ebikes, do yourself a favour and check out their full range. Fatboy offers a range of tough, high quality electric bikes that are capable of handling whatever terrain you throw at them.
I recently had the privelege of taking the Scrambler model for a spin. This was my first hands-on experience with a Fatboy, so if you’re interested in this particular model, read on to hear the low-down on the best-selling Fatboy Scrambler.
Fatboy Scrambler Features & Specs
There’s no doubt about it, the Fatboy Scrambler has a reputation for being high quality, tough and comfortable. I wanted to understand why, so gave the bike a thorough inspection before taking it for a spin.

Here are some of the most notable features that I found that really set the Fatboy Scrambler apart from its competitors:
- You can bring friends – The Fatboy has rugged and tough patented frame design fitted with a 2 seater saddle as standard, and the option to fit additional child seats too. 180kg carrying capacity in total, and the footpegs also provide comfort for rear passengers.
- Rides smooth – This Scrambler is fitted with front fork suspension, as well as motorcycle grade adjustable rear suspension
- Carry gear – The super solid powder coated rear cargo rack is included as standard, and is a great foundation to add additional storage, racks and/or child seats
- Give it some – All Scramblers come fitted with a twist throttle including isolator, which means throttle can be turned on and off for private use
- Stay hydrated – There’s a classy cup/bottle holder mounted centrally into the frame
- See and be seen – A headlight with 3 levels of brightness plus a daytime running mode keeps things visible
- Inflation – The Scrambler is fitted with vee rubber puncture resistant tyres
- Console – Bright LCD colour display with USB charger outputs for your devices
- Weight – 38kg including battery
- Offers peace of mind with a 2 year warranty
As you might expect from an electric bike touted as high quality and durable, I also noted that the Fatboy Scrambler includes componentry from some of the best in the business, namely:
- Bafang 52V hub motor
- Samsung Battery
- Tektro Hydraulic Disc Brakes
- Shimano 7 Speed gears

Fatboy Scrambler Electric Bike – Ride Review
My first impressions once on and riding the Fatboy Scrambler were centred around the extremely solid feel of the bike, but it was its ability to almost completely absorb the shocks of oncoming bumps, curbs and potholes that really took me by surprise.
The Scrambler really is a smooth operator. I’m 180cm tall, and compared to some of the other fat-tyre ebikes on the market, the Scrambler feels more accommodating to someone of my size. The seating position is comfortable, and the ride feel is equally as pleasant cruising along bitumen as it is carving up the dirt tracks. It really offers the confidence that you can ‘go places’, with it’s sturdy stature, fat tyres and superior shock absorption.
I did appreciate the positioning of the twist throttle on the inner right hand grip, it makes for easy access while also offering the feel and thrill of a motorcycle. Functional inclusions, namely the cupholder and tough rear rack is also very appealing, providing the freedoms and storage options to pack gear for adventures.
Honestly, I’m impressed. The Fatboy Scrambler lives up to the hype of being a high quality adventure machine, and even though this was an unincentivised test ride, I’m seriously considering giving a Fatboy Scrambler a permanent home of my own this summer.

Fatboy Scrambler Top Speed
The top speed of the Fatboy Scrambler is 25km/h on public roads.
On private property I was able to reach a top speed of 40km/h. I was surprised to find that while travelling at this speed, the ride still felt extremely stable, smooth and safe. The stability at speed is definitely testament to the build quality and engineering of this bike.

Fatboy Scrambler V2 vs V1 model
Early in the year, the Fatboy team released Version 2 across the range. For those looking to upgrade or compare to older stock, the main differences between the OG model Fatboy V1 and the Fatboy V2 are:
- Battery capacity increased
- More torque and a more top end speed
- Rear rack now has capability to take a kids seat
- Wider rear foot pegs
- Galvanised chain for more durability on the beach
- New patented frame design to increase the travel in the forks, increasing the range on the front
- Stem-mount fully adjustable bars
- Upsized the Tektro hydraulic brakes to 230mm
Fatboy Scrambler vs Bagus
Fatboy offers another model which appears similar to the Scrambler at first glance, called the Bagus (side note: I do love this name, it means ‘good’ in Indonesian).
While the build quality and rear suspension are similar in both models, that’s where the similarities really do stop. The Bagus is at the high-end of the range for a reason, and offers an even higher quality front-end suspension that is fully adjustable, battery placement in the middle of the frame (versus the back for the Scrambler) offering a more balanced feel, a slightly higher seat, plus the capability to fit an extra battery which could be a huge attraction for longer distance riders.
