Dirodi is an all-Australian ebike brand growing rapidly in popularity. In recent months I’ve definitely noticed more Dirodis getting around the streets, and after closer inspection it’s not hard to see why.

Arguably the most popular model in the lineup is the Dirodi Rover electric bike, a robust all-rounder sporting a vintage design and offering the ability to carry a passenger or load. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at this value-packed fat tyre model by Dirodi and what makes it such as compelling ride.

Dirodi Rover Review

The Dirodi Rover is one of Australia’s most popular all-rounder ebike models. Promoted by the proudly-Aussie maker as a 2 person bike with its large comfortable saddle and strong frame accommodating two adults, the Rover sports a vintage design, powerful motor and highly-capable battery. The Rover offers up to 100km of range and can carry up to 150kg of load.

This puncture-resistant fat tyre model offers ultimate versatility on almost any terrain, meaning no path is too tough for the Rover. The Rover has a twist throttle much like a motorcycle, allowing for easy control of the bike’s power. The throttle speed is locked at 6km/h and unlockable for offroad adventures.

The Rover also has a large LCD display showing speed, battery level, motor power mode, odometer, power assist level (6 different levels) and more. It also allows you to go toggle through settings to switch between motor power modes (from 250W up to 750W) and change the maximum speed of the bike at the tap of a button.

This ebike is made up of high quality components including a Shimano 7 speed derailleur and Tektro self-adjusting hydraulic brakes, ensuring superior stopping power. Also included are head and tail lights powered by the main battery, ensuring you can see and be seen regardless of the time of day.

Dirodi Rover Gen 3

The Gen 3 is the latest model Dirodi Rover at the time of writing. This model was released in 2023 and includes several improvements on the previous models (Gen 1 and Gen 2), including the new integrated rear rack which significantly increases your potential to carry cargo, now allowing for 50kg of weight on the rear rack versus 15kg in the previous models.

Dirodi Rover Specs

The Dirodi Rover electric bike features a 48V battery providing 15.6 ampere-hours and 748.8 watt-hours. It comes equipped with a Sans 54.6V 2A 3-Pin Charger, ensuring a charging time of under 8 hours. The bike offers a maximum range of 85 km and an average range of 70 km on a single charge, with a lightweight 5kg removable battery.

The Dirodi Rover has an IP54 waterproof rating. The ergonomic design includes an upright sitting position, riser handlebars, a custom 60CM long 2-person seat in brown, and Velo Leather Grips in black.

Additional accessories included as standard a front light, rear light, integrated rear rack, mudguards, and a bell. The bike does not come with a front carrier or rear basket, and the availability of a drink holder depends on the frame type. It lacks a wheel lock but does feature a handy USB charger.

The braking system consists of hydraulic and mechanical disk brakes with a rotor size of 180mm. The drivetrain includes 7 gears, Shimano Tourney derailleur model, a 14-34 cassette, and a Shimano Tourney gear shifter. The chain components comprise a KMC Z50 chain and a Prowheel Double Chainring with 48 teeth.

For a comfortable ride, the Dirodi Rover Plus model is equipped with front suspension, featuring a non-adjustable compression and a twist throttle with a default maximum speed of 6 km/h. The 20-inch wheels are fitted with Kenda Krusade Puncture Resistant Tyres (4-inch width) in black, mounted with nuts on both front and rear wheels.

The frame comes in a 20-inch size, with a maximum load capacity of 150 kg, and is available in matte black, grey or red. The rider height guide recommends a minimum rider height of 160 cm. The bike is powered by an MXUS 750W Brushless Rear Hub Motor, offering a maximum speed of 25 km/h while restricted and 40km/h unrestricted, and offers a torque of 85 Nm. The overall weight of the Dirodi Rover Ebike is 31 kg.

Dirodi Rover Plus Ebike

The Dirodi Rover Plus includes all of the fine features of the Dirodi Rover plus adjustable front suspension. It’s an upgraded KKE suspension with 8cm of travel and compression damping. It’s through axle front wheel attachment is safer, improves handling and braking.

Dirodi Rover’s 750w Motor

Dirodi’s unique technology allows the rider to switch between 250W, 500W and 750W motor options to suit a variety of riders and conditions, allowing rides of all types from chilled-out cruising on smooth flat bike paths, through to powerful muscle to climb even the steepest trails. The power is generated by a brushless rear hub motor.

Dirodi Rover Charging and Battery Life

The Dirodi Rover contains a removable 48V 15.6AH battery. According to the manufacturer the battery has a 2-4 years lifespan based on 500 to 1,000 recharge cycles. It takes 7.8 hours to fully recharge the battery with the included charger.

Dirodi Rover Range

With standard use you can expect to travel up to 85 km. If you take it easy and use 250W mode, you can expect to reach a distance of up to 110 km.

Dirodi Rover Top Speed

Out of the box, the Rover is capable of speeds of up to 25km per hour. The speed can be unlocked for offroad use, and will then be capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 km per hour.

Dirodi Rover Throttle Speed Unlock

As standard the Rover is locked to 250W of power and a speed of 25km/hr. To increase the power modes to 500W or 750W and increase the maximum speed by following the instructions included in the user manual supplied.

Dirodi Rover Accessories

The step-over model of the Dirodi Rover includes a cup holder as standard, which is awesome for morning coffee runs or relaxing sundown rides. Dirodi also offers a wide range of add-on accessories to suit virtually all possible uses including front, rear and under-frame storage baskets, child seats and a dual battery addition for increased range.

Dirodi Rover Modifications

Aside from unlocking the speed restrictor as mentioned in the previous section, there are swag of other popular modifications amongst Dirodi Rover owners. These include adding mirrors, a horn, mobile phone holder, indicators and a tank bag for extra storage, just to name a few. In the latest Rover model, the rear rack is integrated into the frame, allowing for an increased maximum load of a staggering 50kg. There are also a total of thirteen mounting points on each side of the integrated rack so you can easily add accessories such as a child seat, bike box or surfboard racks.

Dirodi Rover Second Hand

Given the popularity of the Dirodi Rover, you may find reasonable second hand models available on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree. A word of warning, be wary of purchasing second hand ebikes unless you are confident in assessing their condition both mechanically and electronically, as the likelihood of ending up with a poorly maintained ebike is high, which may end up costing you even more in the long run.
